Family-friendly adventures in a Peace-ful, delightful paradise.

As a recreational paradise, the Florida Heartland is a bit of a paradox. After all, a Heartland “current event” could be a truly timeless experience. For example, the scenic and fossil-rich Peace River is a favored destination not only for boaters and nature lovers but also for fossil hunters seeking Pleistocene and Miocene treasures like fossilized shark teeth and mammal bones.  And with thousands upon thousands of gorgeous outdoor acres, “being active” can mean anything from hunting, hiking, biking and horseback riding to skiing to bird watching to golfing—or it can mean sitting back on a lazy afternoon floating with your fishing gear on the mighty Lake Okeechobee, Florida’s largest freshwater lake.

And while you may be sitting still at the Sebring International Raceway, that’s only because you’re riveted to your seat by the heart-pounding action on America’s oldest road raceway, where competitors have been thrilling audiences for over sixty years. Meanwhile, at DeSoto County’s Arcadia Rodeo crowds watch spell-bound by the death-defying duels between man and mighty beasts.

In the Florida Heartland, the stars may be overhead for campers enjoying the magnificent night sky—or the stars may be dazzling on the stage at the annual Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival, four days jam-packed with the nation’s top musical performers.

And although Heartland recreation is delightful for young people, retirees love it here, too. The family-friendly adventures of this Peace-ful paradise make everyone feel young at heart. In the Florida Heartland, the recreational options are unlimited, and so is the satisfaction.
